Quail Seasons and Rules

Quail are not migratory, so each state sets its own seasons, bag limits and shooting hours. Most seasons run through late fall and winter.

Reading the regulations

Season dates often differ by species and region within a state, and some species, such as Mearns’ quail, may have separate seasons. Check daily bag and possession limits for each species.

Weather and the hunt

Cool mornings help dogs scent birds. In the desert, coveys move to water and shade as the day warms.

Dates, limits and rules change every year. Always check the current regulations.
